Kulgam, May 25 (KNO): Two militants were killed in Khurd-Hanjipora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday, police said. A police spokesman in a statement said that on the intervening night of May 24/25, a specific input was received by Kulgam police about the presence of militants hiding in the village Khurd-Hanjipora area. Acting upon this input a joint search operation was launched by Kulgam Police, 34 RR and CRPF 18 Bn, the spokesman said. “As search parties drew closer to the suspected house, hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the search party. The fire was effectively retaliated in which two terrorists were neutralised. The identity and affiliation of the killed militants is being ascertained,” the spokesman said. Incriminating material including arms and ammunition has been recovered from the site of encounter, he said. He said that the operation was clean with no collateral damage. Police requested the people not to go closer to the encounter site since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive material. Although bomb disposal squads of Kulgam Police have cleared the area of all stray explosives, people are requested to co-operate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared. The area witnessed clashes during the encounter.
